Future Suffering is to be Prevented - Brahmachari Girish Ji
Yoga teaches us how to rise above the negativity within ourselves. Yoga strengthens us mentally so that we may determine our own direction in life. Yoga enhances the positive energy within us and helps us in the expansion of our Consciousness. While defining Yoga, Maharishi Patanjali, the propounder of Yoga, declared, "The very goal of Yoga is that suffering should cease before it arises." To remove anger, jealousy, frustration, and hatred, and to move toward a renewed life, is Yoga.
You must have observed that when you are joyful, you experience yourself as expanded, and when you are insulted or encounter failure, you feel as though something within you has diminished. Whatever process of contraction or expansion is taking place within us, Yoga enables us to become its Sakshi (Witness). We often feel completely helpless before our negative emotions. Neither at school nor at home are we generally taught how to transcend these negative emotions. If you are disturbed, you simply remain disturbed, or you have to wait for favourable times. Yoga contains that profound secret which can prepare you for this. It liberates your mind.
Yoga moulds your being in such a way that you can effortlessly direct your thoughts in whichever direction you choose. It makes us more responsible. This is known as Karma Yoga. We perform many roles in our lives. We have the choice to live them like a Yogi or like an ordinary sorrowful person. Caring for one another, living together in harmony, and fulfilling our responsibilities—all become possible through Yoga. Yoga gives rise to greater energy and enthusiasm, which inspire us to accept greater responsibilities. If you possess energy and enthusiasm, you can shoulder responsibilities without feeling burdened. If you examine the root of any conflict, you will find only stress, mistrust, and fear. Yoga helps remove all three. Fear disappears when you broaden your thinking and expand your Consciousness. Then you begin to regard every individual as a part of your own Self.
Yoga has eight limbs—Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. Among these, Yogasana is only one limb; however, its central essence is to maintain the mind in a state of Samata (Equanimity). When you perform any action with complete awareness, you know what you are saying and what you are doing, and this is what makes you a Yogi. Science is the embodiment of systematic and logical understanding. Therefore, Yoga is also a science. To know what this is, is known as science, and to know "Who am I?" is Adhyatma (Spiritual Wisdom). Yet both are sciences.
The complete science of Yoga naturally exists in both a Yogi and a child. While sleeping, children spontaneously assume various Mudras. Across the world, you will observe that every child, while lying down, first raises the legs and then lifts the shoulders like a Cobra (Sarpa). If you observe a child carefully, you may not even require a Yoga teacher. The way children breathe is different from that of adults. It is the Prana-filled breath that serves as the bridge between the body and the emotions. If we become aware of the breath, we can also regulate our emotions and remain free from negativity.
One of the signs of being a true Yogi is that we become like a child once again. The very purpose of Yoga is that suffering should cease before it arises. To embrace all and move towards a renewed life is Yoga. The Bhavateet Dhyana Yoga (Transcendental Meditation) system propounded by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ji has been propagated in over 100 countries of the world as a unique path for making modern life blissful, energetic, and progressive. It embodies the guiding ideal of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ji—"Life is Bliss." In today's disordered and excessively busy way of life, we are drifting away from Prakriti (Nature), society, and family, while also becoming distant from our own Self. It is this very distance that removes Ananda (Bliss) from our lives. Therefore, the closer we come to our own Self, the closer we naturally come to our family, society, and Nature. Thus, uniting one's own Self with the cosmic Self is Yoga.
Jai Gurudev. Jai Maharishi. Jai Bharat.
